When striving towards recovery, prioritising self-care and self-love can prove challenging. Nonetheless, it's crucial to bear in mind that not all injuries are visible. Therefore, it's essential to acknowledge someone's feelings and experiences, even if you're unable to detect the injury
Mental and Physical Health are Equally Important
It's important to recognise that mental health is just as essential as physical health. We should all aim to be compassionate and supportive of individuals who may be struggling, even if their struggles are not immediately apparent. Feeling undervalued and unsupported can have adverse effects on one's mental health and overall well-being, and it's crucial for employers and work-cover to acknowledge this and provide employees with the proper support and resources.
Work-Related Stress and Anxiety: The Importance of Support
Experiencing stress and anxiety at work can be overwhelming and detrimental to one's health. Having a support system during these difficult times can make a significant difference in the recovery process. It's crucial for workplaces and work-cover to acknowledge their employees' needs and concerns and take the necessary steps to provide them with the support and resources they require to navigate these challenges effectively.
Keeping track of medical appointments and progress can be helpful, as can seeking out emotional support from a network of friends, family, or fellow injury survivors.
Additionally, legal advice may be necessary if support or compensation is lacking.
Remember that recovery is a journey and taking things one day at a time is okay.
My Experience of Recovering from a Major Injury
Over the course of the last 8-9 months, I've been recovering from a major injury. While it's been quite a long journey, I've discovered that with adequate resources, follow-through and timely approved appointments, my recovery would have been much quicker. I have documented everything.
Despite being a coach myself, I struggled to establish a rapport and felt that there was a lack of understanding. Eventually, I paid for coaching to help me get back on track and realign my goals. This journey has been a significant learning curve for me, and I've had to explore different ways to support my health and regain my active lifestyle. Thankfully, I am now at around 85% and feeling much better.
