Too often, we as women get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
We forget to take care of ourselves, both mentally and physically. We put everyone else's needs before our own and end up feeling burnt out, resentful, and unhappy.
But it doesn't have to be this way!
When we make self-love a priority, we are able to show up as our best selves for the people and causes we care about most.
What is self-love?
At its core, self-love is acknowledging and accepting yourself for who you are, warts and all.
It's about giving yourself the same love, compassion, and understanding that you so freely give to others. It's recognising that you are worthy of happiness and taking steps to ensure your own happiness and well-being.
Why is self-love so important?
Self-love is the foundation upon which all other forms of love are built.
If we don't love ourselves, it's impossible to truly love others.
When we don't love ourselves, we are constantly seeking validation from others.
We allow other people's opinions of us to dictate how we feel about ourselves. We put our happiness in someone else's hands instead of taking responsibility for our own happiness.
How can I practice self-love?
There are many ways to show yourself some love!
One way is to simply be gentle with yourself. Be patient with yourself as you learn new things and make mistakes along the way.
Forgive yourself when you screw up and don't beat yourself up over it. Another way to practice self-love is to do something nice for yourself every day, even if it's something small.
Maybe you treat yourself to a cup of coffee in the morning or take a relaxing bath at night.
Maybe you buy yourself a new book or take a yoga class.
Whatever it is, make sure it's something that brings you joy!
The bottom line is that self-love is essential for living your best life possible.
When you love yourself, you are able to show up as your best self for the people and causes you care about most.
